Paint Shop Pro allows us to customize almost anything - interface, tools, materials, etc. This customized stuff can be saved for re-using and/or sharing. On the Internet you can find lots of custom brushes, picture tubes, scripts. Let's see how it works.

1. Customize the program workspace for your needs. Then pull down File > Workspace > Save and save your current workspace under some relevant name. On Windows XP, default path to "Workspaces" folder looks like "C:\Documents and Settings\{User}\My Documents\My PSP Files\Workspaces". So you can find the saved file and send it to other PSP user via email.

NB Customizing Paint Shop Pro workspace explained here and here.

2. To use someone else's workspace, just copy its "*.PspWorkspace" file to this folder.

NB Similarly, to use a downloaded brush, copy the proper "*.PspBrush" file to "...\My PSP Files\Brushes\" (thereafter, you can find it in your "Brush Presets"). For importing masks, use "...\My PSP Files\Masks" folder , and so on.

3. Alternatively, you can store resources in some other folders on your computer. Open "Load Workspace" dialog and click the button to open "File Locations" dialog. It allows us to define which folders the program scans for a certain kind of resources. Click "Add" button and find on your computer our sample folder (default path: C:\Program Files\PSP Book).

4. Now in your "Load Workspace" dialog there appears "PhotoshopSkin" item (not available in demo-package). Load it*.
*The full version of video-book comes to you with 3 versions of this workspace - for Paint Shop Pro X, X1, and X2 (see PhotoshopSkin X2).

5. Look around. Surely, it's still Paint Shop Pro. This workspace only mimics the Photoshop menu system, keyboard shortcuts, and palette locations. Some tools and commands work a bit differently; the missing Photoshop functions are subsided with nearest PSP equivalent. However, the next time you find on the Web a cool Photoshop tutorial, try to load this workspace and follow the instructions.

6. Do not forget to reload your saved workspace - the follow-up chapters were composed for Paint Shop Pro :-)
