Express Lab is simplified interface intended for busy photographers (very similar to "Quick Fix" in Adobe Photoshop Elements). There are just a few tools for most common/routine tasks (screenshot).

Although layer styles in PSP 12 are not so versatile and flexible as those in Photoshop, the developers made a really important step to non-destructive editing*.

*Unlike ordinary effects, layer styles can be applied to any layer without rasterizing it. Which means, that text content in this example stays editable. Moreover, the added styles can be hidden, removed, or re-edited later on.

Slightly improved cropping. At last, PSP users can rotate the bounding box arbitrary (screenshot). Cropping with resampling (the way Adobe users crop to pre-defined size) is not available yet.

Black and White Film dialog

Black and White Film effect is a special tool for converting color photos to B&W. Consider it as alternative to "Channel Mixer" (screenshot).

Summing up. Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 is a worthy sequel in PSP series.
As always, it's extremely flexible and powerful, a reasonable alternative to Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. Some of the new features may be really important for photographers and designers. Anyway, before taking decision, make sure to test the tryout.
